PASSING TIME

Sometimes I would like to loiter around and watch things around me. Simply walking with absolutely no purpose other than to see what is happening. Perhaps I am wasting time or blissfully idling away my time. But then there are ever so many things I notice doing this deliberate act of wasting my time. Besides such an idle activity calms my nerves, clears my head and I feel rejuvenated at the end of the walk.

There was a time when I considered all idle activity as unproductive and waste of time. Whenever I spent my time without doing useful work, I felt very guilty about it. I will still be surprised if I see youngsters wasting their time doing nothing. I am changed now. May be age is a factor.

  1. I love to watch the children playing, also I may look as if I'm time wasting when actually I may be watching the wild life in my garden.
I guess age does slow us down a bit but at the end of the day you're as young as you feel.

Loved the pictures, Joseph to me they are very educational.

    Take care.
    Yvonne.

  5. Hello, Joseph,
It is good to know you like idling after so many years. Now you realize its benefits, it has inspired to write a blog. Isn't it lovely after all?
I always used to love watching the world go by, whether it is sitting inside a train,/ platform/just walking on the road or waiting patiently for my turn in clinic.I never get bored, because my mind is constantly noting each every thing in a relaxed manner. Di you notice I said relaxed: but even in that relaxed stage our mind is so active.
Many articles, middles were born out of such mindless mind wandering.
So I would happy idling away !

  6. I'm a watcher and while I watch I think, and thank the Lord for the ability to see and hear the great things all around.

  8. Hi Joseph, I think you have discovered a great truth in what you labeled as idleness. Sometimes in our haste we miss so much. I have had the past four days off and was feeling guilty. I did a little writing and a lot of reading. it is good to relax.......

  10. Mr Joseph, you are an observant man and are interested in people, things and events - you take us into your world through words and pictures. Its good that you take time to do this.

I also find it hard to sit still without any activity at times. And that causes stress. I have decided to take things slowly and try to do routine an d mundane things in a new way.

  12. I don't consider walking around a waste of time. For one thing, you are doing your body a great favor. You are right, we do see things around us and maybe we are inspired by something we see. Besides your blog is titled "man on the move." Have a nice week.

  15. Joe, even a bow is unstrung after a hunting season, so should the human's mind, body and spirit. The act of walking around in itself is already work, so you are not idling. I do this quite a lot lately, and by doing so I seem to enjoy my own company. As we get on in age, we should learn to enjoy our own company. LOL
