FEARS AND PHOBIAS OF OUR LIVES

Dr. Spencer Johnson in his book WHO MOVED MY CHEESE? says WHEN YOU MOVE BEYOND THE REALMS OF FEAR THE POSSIBLITIES OF ACHIEVEMENT ARE LIMITLESS

On Sunday, when I went to the church there was no rain. When the mass was over and I was about to leave the Church the rain started. I sat inside the Church for sometime. The rain was not stopping. I was getting impatient. Suddenly I made up my mind to walk in the rain. I hesitated at first. Then I thought when I was young I had no fear of the rain. Now I am afraid of getting wet. Why? What will happen if I get wet in the rain? Nothing. So I walked out. At first I got wet on my head and soon I got drenched and soaked through and through. I walked slowly with deliberate steps and thoroughly enjoyed the walk. When I reached home I wiped myself dry, made a steaming cup of tea, booted my laptop and thought of sharing this message with you.

NOTHING HAPPENED TO ME. I OVERCAME THE FEAR OF GETTING WET AND IN THE PROCESS I ENJOYED THE LIBERATING FEELING . HOW MANY FEARS AND PHOBIAS I HAVE ACCUMULATED IN MY LIFE’S JOURNEY?

  2. Well done, Joseph. I bet that tea tasted like nectar. I'm always intrigued at the way people, including me, drop their heads forward and hunch their shoulders. We still get wet so we might as well walk erect.

  4. I had a fear of swimming pools and whilst living in Spain overcame my fear, I still can't swim but no longer afraid, these days as I have got older things like cancer and death keep cropping up on TV and it gets me wondering, We can't do anything about either especially the later but it do make me over catious at times.

    Lovely to hear from you,
    Enjoy your day.

Thank you so much for this valuable post Mr J.

Now tha t we are hurting from the Mumbai attacks and the horrible train accidents. We have to step out into the rain - with faith in God.

The rain will come but god will protect us.

  7. Joseph, try washing your car under a heavy downpour. I did. It was liberating, and a few neighbours joined in, too!

  8. I use to fear speaking to people when I was young. I overcame that fear when I took my first job. Fear is a frightful things and there are many different fears out there that we as individuals has to overcome. Very nice post, hope you did not catch a cold getting so wet.

  15. I like the way you just stepped out once you made up your mind. Perhaps it wasn't a real fear but more a reluctance to get wet. When you let the little boy out he enjoyed himself!

  16. You really have an interesting blog, Joseph. I'm enjoying reading it. I agree about the rain. In Hawaii most people just walk in it. We call it liquid sunshine.
