THIS TREE FASCINATED ME

This tree fascinated me from my young age. I remember eating a few petals of the flower from this tree when I was a boy with my friends. They tasted sour. The flower and the tree in full bloom looked grand even then. Please click on the photos for lovely large view.

They really grabbed my attention when I was working in Goa as branch manager of Avery India Ltd. I was living in Porvorim and the office was in Panjim. I had to cross the Mandovi Bridge both in the morning and evening. On the steep slope leading to Mandovi bridge there are rows and rows of these trees on both sides of the road. In the months of April, May and June they were in full bloom and there were thousands of bright red flowers on the trees. They looked so cheerful and fascinating that I forgot all the problems I had during the time I drove up or down the slope under the thick canopy of those gorgeous flowers.

Now in Kochi, where I am living, these tress are there but not in rows and rows as I saw them in Goa. Yet I am fascinated by this tree when it is in full bloom. They seem to challenge and defy the mighty hot sun during this season with their beautiful flowers. I wonder how many of us can face a difficult situation with courage, confidence and never say die attitude.

I salute this tree. I think this tree is called the May Flower tree.

  9. Hi Joseph
I am back after a brief absence. Yours is the first blog I am opening & commenting on.The red flowered tree is indeed so beautiful and additionally also provides plenty of shade. It provides much joy, peace & tranquility to the beholder. There are many such trees in Coimbatore too.Incidentally I have just retired after around 38 years of serving in various organizations. Hopefully I shall be able to devote more time to blogging now.

    Regards & Best Wishes

  10. Hi Joseph, you captured nature's exceptional beauty with those pictures. Numbers 2, 3 and 5 were my particular favourites. I loved the way the branch arched towards the water. Your journey to work must have been a pleasure. Have a good week, Joseph.

  11. First of all I must tell you that these pictures are so pretty. I like the way the flowers grow on the branches. Isn't it nice how natures beauty can brighten up our outlook on life and make us happy. Have a nice week. Another thing, your part of the world has a lot of beauty in it.

  12. This tree is breathtaking! Just think of all the magnificent trees and flowers and plants we will see in heaven! But a warm place like Kochi or Goa must look like heaven in the spring! Another friend posted another tree in bloom. If you have never seen it, google "Jacaronda tree". It is INCREDIBLE! Up to 50 meters high and full of nothing but purple flowers shaped like a tube, then petals at the end of the tube.
I am glad you were able to leave the message at your old blog! If you were not even able to open that blog, it is a miracle you were able to leave the message.
Your picture in your profile is VERY NICE !!!
BLESS YOU JOSEPH. You really enrich my life. I live through your eyes, from my bed.

  14. Dear Mr. Joseph,

The moment I saw the first picture I said "May Flower" to myself. I remember we used to make demon nails with the bud. The bud had two layers, like that of sticker. The lower part to which the bud sticks can be peeled off and the red bud stuck to the nails. It was so much fun. I miss those days. The next time I see this tree I am gong to make myself some demon nails. :-)

I like the beautiful message you embed with the pictures. Indeed these trees are a symbol of courage. We need to learn to be strong and brave from them. Lovely photographs.

    Have a nice day.

  16. Dear Joseph;
When you wrote me about your very heart-touching situation, and said "I'm sure you'll have something to say about this", I wasn't sure if you meant that you didn't really want to know what I had to say about it, or if you did. Also I hoped I could answer you more privately than on your blog. My blog is more private, so if I answer that issue under where you left the comment, can you see it? Did you sign up to see follow up comments when you left a comment? The exact thing happened to me, and I did find a solution to the problem. Would you rather have me post it here or on my blog? It is nothing embarassing and it is not too long, but I want to make you comfortable.
    Blessings, Sheila

  17. Oh! I see that you moderate your comments, so if I type the solution here, you can read it, then just choose not to publish it to your blog! Great! I guess I will write it here, it's not so long or secretive. I don't know if my solution will fit your culture, but what I did was to tell the parents (you could even write this in a letter to them) to please forgive me, because at the time I recommended that the boy and girl get together, she was a wonderful girl and that no one can see the future to see what will happen in the future and how people can change, or who will influence them, so I had no idea this is the way it would happen, and that I certainly would not have suggested such a union if I could see that this is how the future would turn out. The parents forgave me and apologized, realizing no one can see the future. So sad that human nature needs to blame someone for everything that goes wrong. I'm so sorry you had to go through this. Thank you for sharing something so personal with me. I will pray that their hearts will be softened and ready for your explanation. The Lord certainly does not want discord among His children. I will pray for you and for them.
    Blessings, Sheila

  18. Hi Joseph,
I can see why you find these trees so delightful, they do seem to just burst with beauty. The camera you use now has such great resolution I can enlarge the pictures to where I could see an insect on the leaves. I talked with a friend that has traveled extensively and she was telling me all about different countries and how interesting they were. She then mentioned that she had visited India not long ago. I told her I have a friend in Kochi and she said she was there! I asked her, 'what country do you consider the most interesting in all your travels?' she said emphatically, India! By far and hands down the most interesting country she has ever visited. I thought you might enjoy hearing her comments.
    God bless,
    Fred

  19. Hi Joseph! That's indeed a beautiful and fascinating tree! We have trees like that in the university where I came from. And I see some on the road going farther south of the province.

It's really pleasing to look at, especially against the blue sky.

  23. Beautiful!! We call it here the 'Fire Tree' or 'Flame Tree'. There's one on our street now in full bloom --- in flaming red with nary a green leaf on its branches. Always takes my breath away each time I look at it. :-) There was this one time several days ago when I was on my way out and looked up to it.. a magnificent sight of blazing scarlet with the clearest of blue skies above it. :-) Gorgeous!

Thanks for sharing this beautiful pictures here. Take care and God bless.

  25. Hello Rema:)

    Many thanks for your comment.

This tree stands out among other trees just by the abundance of red colored flowers with hardly any leaves during the season.

    Best wishes:)
